Dutch Design Garden Apartment in Amsterdam
For busy Amsterdam nightlife you can easily take the tram into the city centre but for a good meal and a pleasant evening out there is a great selection in our neighbourhood which is home to some of the city’s most highly-regarded restaurants: De Kas (who grow food in their own greenhouses), Merkelbach (slowfood in a park) and Riva (with beautiful views over the Amstel River).
In addition there are also a lot of smaller less expensive restaurants just around the corner. The stars we have given to the places mentioned below are indications of the price level.
A cosy all day pub with a British inspired menu packed with comfort food classics walking distance from our house.
Start your day with a cup of great coffee and a proper English breakfast, or a freshly baked scone with home made jam. Enjoy a Pimm's & lemonade and some sausage rolls on the lovely terrace, or have dinner with a lamb or veggie pie. Kitchen open from 8.30am until 9pm.
Also in walking distance this small restaurant with a set menu, like the french 'menu routier'. 34 euro and 5 courses. Very charming and in summer with a lovely terrace
De Vergulden Eenhoorn is a city farmhouse dated from 1702. It is in walking distance, has great food which is served in the former stable. Lunch, Diner, just drinks... it also has a great garden.
Restaurant Merkelbach is located in the coach house to the right of Huize Frankendael. The spacious patio overlooks an oasis of green; the formal garden and Park Frankendael. Honestly sourced ingredients and an interest in unusual products links Head Chef Geert Burema’s passion closely with the slow food movement.
Best Indonesian take-away: Kediri
The best Indonesian take away is just a three minutes walk from us. You need to be a bit patient as there is a waiting line on most days but it is well worth it.
Mr & Mrs Watson
Our favorite night out. Le Hollandais is situated on the river Amstel, slightly south to the center of Amsterdam in a neighborhood called de Pijp, often described as the Quartier Latin of Amsterdam. The atmosphere in the restaurant is pleasantly informal, the staff friendly and experienced in culinary matters.
Café Restaurant Riva
Cafe-restaurant Riva is located directly on the banks of the Amstel river, on the extend of the Weesperzijde. Cafe-restaurant Riva defines itself by an international cuisine, extensive winelist and a large sunny terrace on the Amstel river.
They daily create one menu, based on the harvest of their own nursery. The cooking style is inspired by the cuisines of the rural Mediterranean, with fresh local vegetables playing an important role
